Energy storage projects in North China are currently the most in China. Due to the geographical environment, the power grid in Northwest China cannot supply power to all regions.
"Key developments in energy storage technologies will play a pivotal role in integrating renewable energy sources and smart grids, thus enhancing the overall flexibility and efficiency of China's energy system," said Fei Zhi, vice-chairman of GCL Group.
In 2016, energy storage was included in China's 13th Five-Year Plan national strategy top 100 projects. Energy storage has officially entered the national development plan for the first time and has been identified in the 100 major engineering projects which China plans to implement in the next five years .
The application of energy storage ultimately depends on market demand. The commercialization of energy storage in China should find its own profit point and clarify the application scenarios and business models of various energy storage, so as to achieve long-term development of the energy storage industry.
It is mainly used in power transmission and distribution systems with loads close to the equipment capacity. The energy storage is installed downstream of the power transmission and distribution equipment that originally needs to be upgraded to delay or avoid capacity expansion.
Negotiated lease and energy performance contracting business model can transfer risk and attract more capital into the energy storage market, which can buy time for a more rational energy storage business model.
