View DetailsWe propose a contractual setup, the proxy storage power purchase agreement (PPA), to foster the deployment of energy storage technologies. We define a threshold price below which the PPA becomes financially attractive for PPA buyers. We compute the threshold price for several storage technologies and configurations, in seven European countries.
Though 24/7 clean power purchase agreements are gaining global momentum and could drive the deployment of storage and flexible generation assets, they require power suppliers to develop new capabilities.
Some PPAs for new energy storage resources have been structured as capacity-only contracts in which the developer is responsible for the sale of energy and all costs associated therewith—including the costs of the required energy procured from the utility.
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) is a long-term contract between a buyer and a power generator, where the buyer agrees to purchase electricity at a pre-agreed price for a set period.
A Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) entails the purchase of electricity generated by renewable energy infrastructure, providing a reliable source of power without ownership of the infrastructure. Conversely, a lease grants access to renewable energy infrastructure, such as solar panels or wind turbines, without the obligation of ownership.
1. On-Site Power Purchase Agreement: On-site PPAs offer businesses the opportunity to harness renewable energy directly at their facility, reducing reliance on traditional grid electricity. By generating energy on-site, businesses can offset their electricity costs and potentially achieve significant long-term savings.
