View DetailsTo date, our 40MJ flywheel energy storage systems (Ess) have been successfully implemented in numerousprojects across China, including the Qingdao Metro Line 6, Line 11, Line 2, Hangzhou Metro, Suzhou Metro,Nanning Metro, Guangzhou Metro, Macau Light Railway, and more.
On the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC), Flybrid Systems recorded an 18 % savings for a 1.7-ton saloon car and a 35 % savings for a 2.6-ton SUV . The installed Flywheel Energy Storage Systems were designed to provide electricity by offloading a high-energy/low-power source.
Flywheel Energy Storage Systems (FESS) are a pivotal innovation in vehicular technology, offering significant advancements in enhancing performance in vehicular applications. This review comprehensively examines recent literature on FESS, focusing on energy recovery technologies, integration with drivetrain systems, and environmental impacts.
The primary goal in flywheel design is to maximise specific energy storage, guided by the stress limits that the materials can withstand. Employing high-strength materials or composites allows for a reduction in mass while permitting higher rotational speeds, which in turn, enhances the specific energy storage capacity .
Since 2009, our team has been researching and verifying key technologies in flywheel energy storageincluding high-speed motors, electromagnetic bearings, and composite high-tension windings.
To reduce energy usage, Los Angeles Metro installed a Vycon flywheel Wess at the traction power substation (TPSS) at Westlake/ MacArthur Park station, and the system was commissioned in August 2014. The Wess has a 2MW installed capacity for 15 seconds, or 8.33kWh, and can be expanded to 6MW for 15 seconds, or 25kWh.
