We do this by investigating wildlife trafficking networks and the criminals that run them, who are often based far away in Vietnam, China and Singapore.

The study was led by Save the Elephants, University of Washington, Wildlife Conservation Society, Nelson Mandela University, and WWF Namibia. As human-elephant conflict increases across Africa, farmers need practical, sustainable and affordable ways to peacefully co-exist with elephants without having to resort to violence.
Here are some of the key developments that have taken place during our ongoing fight to save elephants. In 1989, CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, announced an unprecedented international ban on the trade of ivory. CITES is a multi-lateral treaty which governments sign up to voluntarily.
Elephants are Africa's gardeners and landscape engineers, planting seeds and creating habitat wherever they roam. Without urgent action to save their species, elephants could disappear from the wild within a single generation. Approximately 100,000 elephants in Africa were killed for their ivory in just three years between the years 2010 & 2012.
The EIA has been at the forefront of saving elephants for more than four decades; we were instrumental in securing the international ban on ivory trade in the '80s and we've been fighting to keep it in place ever since. Why save African elephants?
